Message from the President

Welcome to the Houston component of the Academy of General Dentistry. We hope you find this web site helpful in staying abreast of CE and current events that impact your practice of dentistry.

One concern that virtually every dentist we contact talks about is the difficulty they have staying abreast of current events in dentistry and remaining current with up to date continuing education. Dentists have a strong desire to be connected to one another and to be up to date and informed, but doing so seems an elusive goal. However, it is that connection that makes us strong. Our ability to unite allows us to focus on issues that directly affect general dentistry today and tomorrow.

With that in mind, next year marks a major milestone for the Houston Dental Branch; a new, state of the art building and a new name. It will be the place where current dentists and the dentists of our future can not only further their education, but get and stay connected. The various dental organizations are coming together here in Houston to work as a team to make the most of this new page in the education of dentists here in Houston. For the dental school and the dental community this is a special time, and the HAGD will be part of this “Big Event”. I encourage all of you to come out and enjoy the moment, but more specifically, enjoy re-connecting with colleagues. In the coming months, we plan to present seminars geared toward all dentists, helping to keep then abreast of an ever changing political environment and cutting edge continuing education. On September 23, 2011, we are proud to present Dr. Howard Farran’s “The Virtues of Profitable Dentistry”. Dr. Howard Farran is one of the most forward thinking, cutting edge dentists in the world. Come and enjoy his fast paced, straight from the hip, politically incorrect, exhilarating style while you learn more in one lecture that you ever thought possible. Dr. Farran is the founder and publisher of DentalTown magazine. We will host Dr. Howard Glazer on February 17th, 2012, when he presents “What’s Hot and What’s Getting Hotter in Dentistry”. Dr. Glazer is a Fellow and Past President of the Academy of General Dentistry, and former Assistant Clinical Professor in Dentistry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY). This is a program about real dentistry for real people by a real dentist! The entire dental team will benefit from this course. Both speakers bring to our members the very latest in Dentistry, both from a scientific perspective as well as how we can manage our practices more efficiently and profitably. I look forward to seeing all of you at the upcoming meetings.
